Dear Friend,Since 1968, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wabash Valley has been in the exciting business of helping at-risk children succeed! Many young lives have been positively impacted when matched with Big Brothers and Big Sisters who have encouraged healthy choices, expanded horizons, and modeled productive lifestyles. Former Little Brothers and Little Sisters, now competent, contributing members of the community, testify to the positive effects of the child mentoring programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Because of the dedication of a very experienced and committed professional staff and a supportive Board of Directors, we have seen a 44% increase in the number of children matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister over the past five years. During that same period, we realized a 15% decrease in the cost of making and maintaining a match. There are potentially 1500 children in Tippecanoe County whose lives could be enriched – even dramatically changed – by a Big Brother or Big Sister. Our vision is to provide a positive mentor for every one of these children, and we are passionately pursuing that goal. As we look for new and creative ways to maintain our momentum and realize
our vision, our challenge is to attract and engage committed volunteers
to serve as Big Brothers and Big Sisters and to secure the funding necessary
for expanding services. It takes five people to produce a successful mentoring
match: the Big Brother/Sister, the Little Brother/Sister, the parent,
the professional staffer, and the donor. It is our hope that as you read
the included information, you will catch our vision and become part of
that life-changing equation as we seek to serve our community by mentoring
children to impact the future! Ronda McKinnis |
